LO-3 Motivate yourself to take an interest in and understand issues and problems facing the United States.
LO-4 Exercise your privileges and obligations as a United States resident, through participation in local and state political activities.

Course Structure

Communication: The majority of our communication will take place through the inbox or Canvas messaging system. This is in the upper right hand of your screen. I also will give you feedback through the comments section of essays and discussions. You may even see some feedback attached to other assignments such as quizzes or additional assignments. You may also call or text me in an urgent situation. Please see the syllabus for that information.

Assignments: The syllabus also addresses the submission of assignments. It is important to get them in on time and according to the instructions given to you through the syllabus.

What will you do in this course? You will write a lot in this course. This is the nature of an online course. You will write discussion board posts, which serve as our classroom discussion. You will write essays to demonstrate your understanding of a concept. You will write additional responses as assigned in video or other additional assignments throughout this semester.

You will complete quizzes to show whether you gained an understanding of knowledge through reading the text and viewing any lectures or notes given by the instructor on each chapter.

Hello, students! Welcome to this course. I am so excited to work with you this term and assist you in achieving your educational goals. I truly look forward to our class and getting to know each of you. If you have a preferred name that is not on the official roster, please send it to me. You are welcome to call me "Barbara." If you are uncomfortable with that, then "Dr. Illowsky" is fine, too. One of the many reasons I love teaching this particular course is the real world applications we can share.

Please go through all the web pages to familiarize yourself with how we'll operate. You'll see that your textbook is FREE!!! (Are you smiling? I hope so!) Please contact me as soon as you have any challenges so that we can work together to meet your needs.
