Week 2: Biopsychology
Week two...
With the completion of the introduction information and research methods, we move into specific areas of psychology. This chapter is interesting in that developments are made and reported in the news consistently. Technology has brought and continues to bring new and amazing discoveries. As you read the chapters, consider following up on points that interest you: What new discoveries are out there? As this is an open educational resource, it does get updated consistently, but not always with cutting edge information.
One area that is gaining great attention is that of the eyeball and how it reflects diseases of the mind: Alzheimer's, dementia, etc. The biological elements of the mind are showing more physical connections to the body. This then leads into states of consciousness of which sleep is one. With more and more research being done of the importance of sleep, consider how your sleep affects you and what you can learn about your own patterns.
In terms of these areas, please take note of the research methods used in biopsychology. How is data collected for sleep? For the mind and body connection? Research methods are important throughout this course. Make sure to focus on those methods and the details for further application in other topics.
