Week 13-14: Psychological Disorders & Treatments

Week 13 & 14...

We have covered various topics, but this module, we tackle the areas of disorders and treatment. What goes wrong in our brains? What causes schizophrenia or depression or anxiety? As with any time something goes awry, curiosity brings questions. As you read, please do not diagnose yourself or others... It is a tendency for students as we move through this chapter.

More importantly, to understand disorders, we need to remember to begin with the foundational information we have already learned. For example, if an individual becomes addicted to cocaine, what parts of the brain will be affected? How can individuals with brain damage recover, if only one hemisphere is destroyed? Consider what you have already learned to connect with the disorders of brains.

The assessment for this week is to create an experiment that deals with a specific disorder and a treatment. Remember to start with a research question and describe completely.  Choose a disorder that interests you and work to consider how best to research it. Of course, the first rule is "Do no harm." If your "research" adheres to that, then I will be open to many different ideas.

In addition, because Thanksgiving falls next week, this module and its assignments will be due the Monday after: November 27th. Please do not miss that due date. Our semester final will then begin and the last day for any assignment submissions will be December 6, 2023. Please email me with any questions.
